Hello, I’m Joe, President of Goldsmiths SU. Last year I was Campaigns and Activities Officer, dedicating my time to campaigns such as: the Goldsmiths Anti-Racist Action occupation, the hardship fund for international students and bringing the cleaners in-house.
Now I’ve stepped up as President, I want to transform our SU to be truly progressive. This year, I've already worked with our new warden Frances Corner to ensure a Green New Deal at Goldsmiths, meaning that single use plastics will be banned on campus and the college will be switching to a renewable energy source, with the promise of being completely carbon neutral by 2030.
Over the rest of the year, I will fight for:
Cheaper accommodation for students
All staff in-house
Graduation fees abolished
Free university fees on a national level
Together, the SABBs are working on:
Better mental health services at our uni
The BME attainment gap/decolonising the curriculum
Improving accessibility on campus
A new SU website
I'll keep you updated on social media every step of the way and hope we can make Goldsmiths even better for you. Come along to our student meetings to have your voice heard, or just reach out to any of us to get involved.
See you all around campus - if you see me about, say hello!
