Strikes update - February 2022

Further strikes are planned after negotiations between Goldsmiths UCU and the university senior management team have not reached agreement.

Despite three weeks of strike action last term and active support from students and Goldsmiths SU's sabbatical officers, the University's senior management team (SMT) have made no concessions and 46 proposed redundancies are still on the table.

Goldsmiths UCU, the staff union, has been negotiating with the SMT for months and during the last strike period to come to an agreement and stop the strike action.

SMT has the power to stop further strike action at any time by coming to an agreement with GUCU.

Strike action is a form of escalation a union undertakes when demands aren’t taken seriously which is why management have left GUCU with no choice but to plan for another strike period this term.

Unless the negotiations make further progress, strikes are likely to take place on:

Monday 7 and Tuesday 8 February

Monday 14 February to Friday 18 February, inclusive

Monday 21 and Tuesday 22 February

Monday 28 February to Friday 4 March, inclusive

A message from Goldsmiths UCU to students of Goldsmiths:

Do you have questions about the upcoming strike? The staff union and the student union will organise an open assembly with students on Thursday 3 February at 12.30-1.30pm online.

All are welcome to join the assembly through this link: https://tinyurl.com/STRIKEASSEMBLY.

The sabbatical officers, the GUCU presidents and union members involved in student-staff solidarity work will be present to answer any questions and listen to any concerns or worries that you might have.

Hope to see you there!
