It's been an incredible year for Goldsmiths sport, with more involvement than ever before in both competitive and non-competitive sport, our Netball and Women's Football Teams winning their leagues, Tennis and Mountaineering competing at nationals for the first time ever, Taekwondo bringing home countless medals, and finally our recent Varsity victory.
On Thursday 23rd March, we celebrated the successes, perseverance and sporting prowess of our teams at the annual Sports Dinner, with awards given out in categories including Team of the Year, Player of the Year, and the Justin Fashanu Award.
Manisha Taylor MBE, a Goldsmiths teaching Alumna, joined us on the evening, delivering an inspirational speech about her career-changing journey into football, with a deeply touching account sharing the story of her brother's breakdown, her role as his carer and mental health in sport.
The awards were then handed out, and the winners were...
Players of the Year: Georgina Ingram (Taekwondo) and Mani (Men's Football)
Captains of the Year: Kiki Bustos (Women's Football) and Ffion Cowen (Netball)
Coach of the Year: Terry and Kuzey (Taekwondo)
New Team of the Year: Women's Rugby
Team of the Year: Women's Football
Justin Fashanu Award: Women's Football
Congratulations to everyone who won an award or was nominated - and here's to another amazing year of sport at Goldsmiths!
