Update on 13th April: Congratulations to Reuben and the team who came first in their heat - catch it here on iPlayer. You can see them in action in the final at 4am on Saturday 14th April.
Goldsmiths psychology student, Reuben Arthur, is taking to the international stage and running in the Commonwealth Games. You can catch him in action representing Team England this Friday (13th April) in the Men’s 4x100m relay heats.
Reuben’s in the final year of his undergraduate Psychology with Management degree and a part of the SU’s Talented Athlete programme, that gives students the opportunity to develop their sporting performance alongside their academic studies at Goldsmiths.
Reuben chatted to us about the upcoming race: “I’m looking forward to getting out there and representing the country.
“I think this whole experience for me has been about staying ready for the unexpected nature of life. I had no clue I would be in Australia until two days before I was meant to fly out. Initially my visa hadn’t gone through so I missed my first flight, my laptop even broke out here unexpectedly - but if you stay ready, you don’t have to get ready.
“That’s the attitude I’m taking into Friday’s relay and forward into life. It’s served me well thus far so I’m looking forward to seeing what it returns me!”
The Commonwealth Games are taking place in Australia’s Gold Coast and began with the Opening Ceremony on Wednesday 4th April.
You can watch Reuben running when the heats start at 2am on BBC One and the red button, or if you’re not a night owl, catch up on BBC later in the day. If the English team are successful in their heat, the finals take place at 5:40am on Saturday morning.
Reuben recently bagged the silver medal and a new personal best in the men’s 60 metres at BUCS Nationals in February, completing the race in 6.77 seconds.
GOOD LUCK REUBEN!
