Vote in the January by-election!

Would you like to lead change in Goldsmiths SU?

Do you believe in social justice?

This January, we’re reopening elections for our two vacant Part-Time Officer positions. The positions available are as follows:

LGBTQ+ Officer

Care Leavers and Estranged Students’ Officer

We’re calling for students who self-define into these demographics to run in our January by-election to join our network of Officers.

The network is made up of four Full-Time Officers, seventeen Part-Time Officers, four Student Trustees and one Union Chair. Together these student Officers work to make positive social change within the SU, college and local community. The role shouldn't take up more than a few hours each month and the only mandatory aspect is attendance to the Student’s Forum - although we offer a number of trainings, networking sessions and one to one support meetings to help you in your role.

What dates will the by-election run?

Nominations open: 12pm Monday 6th January 2020

Nominations close: 12pm Monday 13th January 2020

Voting opens: 12pm Tuesday 14th January 2020

Voting closes: 12pm Tuesday 21st January 2020

Results: 5-7pm, Wednesday 22nd January at Students' Forum

What is a Part-Time officer?

A Part-Time Officer is an elected candidate who stands to represent and make positive change for specific communities of students or projects. Unlike the Full-Time Officer role this is a voluntary unpaid position and you do it alongside your studies - but there are lots of other extra opportunities which make the role worthwhile. If successful, you will gain lots of training and experience in this role alongside the pride of making real change for the students who you represent. Many students who go onto Full-Time Officer roles began in Part-Time Officer positions.

What support will I get?

Goldsmiths SU aim to support students both during elections and during transition to elected position. We will do this with training and skills sessions, one to ones with our Campaigns and Democracy Coordinator and with specific monetary funding. During elections you will be given a campaigning materials pack (supplied in accordance with our rules and regulations) meaning you won’t have to spend any of your own money to get involved and when in position an Activism Fund of £2000 annually will be available for bidding between all Part-Time Officer positions.

How do I vote?

You will be able to vote here and by logging into your SU account. Voting will open 12pm Tuesday 14th January and will close 12pm Tuesday 21st January. We ask that voters self-define into the positions that they are voting for.
