As a Postgraduate Department Rep, Lisanne has learnt a bunch of practical skills…
‘In my role I’m basically the link between the department, the Programme Reps and the students on the different courses in the department. You also work closely with the SU, which means you to get to know staff members, students from different courses and departments! It’s a varied role that’s very hands-on.
I learnt a lot about collecting feedback efficiently and passing it on to the relevant members of staff. I learnt how to communicate on different levels, chaired meetings and coordinated events. It really helped that I had a lovely team to collaborate with. We organised a great networking and social event for all six postgrad courses in my department, set up a co-working space for our students and addressed issues of accessibility and community building, as well as practical programme-related things.
I would totally recommend this position to anyone who wants to make real, positive changes to their department and the college as a whole. If you’re looking to get out of your comfort zone, and complement your academic development with a whole range of practical skills, then it’s worth doing.’
