The Arts Cup has been retained by Goldsmiths sports teams for the second year in a row, storming to a 7-4 victory over University of the Arts' sports teams.
The week began with an important early win for our Cheer Team, the Goldsmiths Lions, and was followed by wins from Men's Football 2nds, Men's Rugby, Men's Football 1sts, Men's Basketball, Women's Football and Women's Basketball during the main Varsity day on Saturday at Haberdasher's Aske's Sports Ground.
The final two games of the day - Women's Football and Women's Basketball - were closely fought victories, coming down to the wire, with Women's Football coming back from 2-0 down to a resounding 4-3 victory, and Women's Basketball going to extra time before taking the final few baskets.
Wins were conceded to Arts in Badminton, Hockey and Netball 1sts and 2nds.
Huge crowds and our new mascot, Renato the Lion, were on the sidelines throughout the day cheering on the teams as they took to the pitch, field or court to battle it out in our annual sporting competition against our rivals.
Eva, Campaigns and Activities Officer, celebrated the success of the day: "It was amazing to have so many supporters come down to cheer on our amazing sports team, and very exciting to retain the Arts Cup for another year - congratulations to all our amazing sports teams on their triumph over Arts!"
Friendly matches were also played in Volleyball and Women's Rugby, with both victories going to Goldsmiths, whilst Arts SU's staff football team beat the Goldsmiths staff team, as the match went to a nail-biting penalties finale.
The teams will be celebrating at this week's Sports Awards, where prizes will be given to the teams, coaches and captains of the year, as well as the Club and Indiviudal Colours awards being handed out.
