A statement from Beth Lowe, our Campaigns and Activities Officer about the closure of Club Pulse...
'You may have heard about the colleges recent decision to close Club Pulse, the gym on campus. Many of you are as fuming as I am about this news. It is a MASSIVE loss and I share in a lot of your frustrations about this decision.
Since the closing of the sports hall to make more design studios, Club Pulse has been the only place on campus where students can exercise. For many students, it is a safe and accessible environment and needed for theirwellbeing and ONCE AGAIN, the college have ignored their students!
It’s important to stress that THERE WAS ZERO CONSULTATION WITH THE UNION, STUDENTS OR COLLEGE STAFF ???? THE SABB TEAM WEREN'T EVEN AWARE OF THE CLOSURE UNTIL AFTER IT HAD BEEN DECIDED???
I am sensing a BIG and CONSTANT theme here. Senior management will claim that they are closing the gym so students can have more learning space, but we didn’t ask for this. GOLDSMITHS DON’T CARE ABOUT THEIR STUDENTS WELLBEING. There has also been no thought given to the local community who are losing their fitness hub OR the wonderful gym staff who are being forced to relocate or lose their jobs with 2 months notice. Another sad day for goldsmiths and a HUGE loss that cannot be ignored. When will this end? How long will Senior Management continue to ignore the students?
Please drop me a message if you have been affected by the news of the gym closing. I want to know how you’ve been affected so we can get together and show the college that this is unacceptable and not what you want.'
