Union Constitution changes following the General Meeting

On January 30th, we held our SU general meeting, and all students were welcome to attend and vote on amendments to our Constitution within the meeting.

On January 30th, we held our SU general meeting, and all students were welcome to attend and vote on amendments to our Constitution within the meeting.

The amendments, which were previously approved by our Trustee Board and Goldsmiths’ Council, were put to a student vote and passed with a majority of votes in favour. They have since been filed with the Charity Commission, and we are in the process of implementing them.

Amendments passed during the meeting

A new procedure will be created for appointing a President from the other sabbatical officers if the President resigns or is removed after the academic year starts.

The way we appoint student trustees will shift from having elections to a recruitment process to help more students get involved with the role.

References to "Goldsmiths College" will be changed to "Goldsmiths University of London" to reflect its status as a university.

We will add mentions of the Students’ Forum subcommittees (like liberation, activities, and education committees) to keep everything consistent with our rules and how we’re currently organised.

We will remove mentions of the Annual General Meeting (AGM), electing trustees to better match our current practices.

The term "political policy" will be changed to "democratic policy" to better reflect the wider nature of motions we receive and clarify that these are student-led initiatives, not organisational policies.

The requirement for the Students' Forum to report to the Trustee Board will change from four reports to three per academic year, which reflects the actual number of forums held.

The Constitution will be updated to allow trustees to share their contact information with the Chief Executive Officer through phone and email instead of outdated methods.
