As student representatives we want to recognise the struggle of the Iranian peoples in the face of state violence.
In solidarity with our Iranian students,
From 28 Dec 2025, protests have erupted all across Iran, met with violent repression at the hand of the state. Initially sparked in Iran’s capital by the merchant class as the value of rial plummeted and the economy went into free fall, they were soon joined by people across the country and turned towards calls for the end of the Islamic Republic and authoritarian government. Protesters were met with security forces which have employed violence against the people, using tear gas, riot police and live ammunition, leading to thousands killed. Since then, a total internet blackout was imposed, resulting in many being unable to contact their families and loved ones.
As student representatives we want to recognise the struggle of the Iranian peoples in the face of state violence. We recognise the immense pain this violence has caused to students who are Iranian, who have families and loved ones in Iran and we want to offer our solidarity to you. We stand in solidarity with the self determination of the peoples of Iran in their revolt against this repressive regime, we reject the hypocritical attempts of western powers – who themselves are currently repressing, criminalising, and killing protesters – to co-opt the people’s revolt towards the ends of imperialism and global domination.
On request from our members, we are committed to facilitating the creation of a dedicated support group space for our Iranian students and for all students experiencing the impact of the systemic and ongoing violence. If you want to be involved please email sabbs@goldsmithssu.org.
