To support staff and show solidarity

  • Take time to understand why staff are taking industrial action and what concerns they have raised about Future Goldsmiths.
  • Attend rallies, meetings, teach-outs, pickets or events if you wish to learn more.
  • Speak to staff and students affected by the proposals and listen to their experiences.
  • Share information and challenge misinformation where appropriate.
  • Contact the University’s Executive Board and Council to express your views on the proposals and their impact on students and staff. Contact the local Lewisham MPs and councillors, including the Mayor of Lewisham.
  • Join campaigns, meetings or organising efforts with the students of Free Goldsmiths: instagram.com/freegoldsmiths/

If you want to complain

  • Keep written records of any issues, delays or impacts you experience. Keep proof of any email exchanges, correspondence, documented impact (eg. medical documentation). Compile everything in a folder.
  • If you believe a change has materially affected your studies, seek advice from the SU Advice team before deciding what action to take: goldsmithssu.org/advice/
  • More information on the Goldsmiths Student Complaints: gold.ac.uk/students/appealsandcomplaints/studentcomplaints/
  • Use the SU Impact Diary to detail your experience. This may help you formulate your complaint.

If you want to understand how you may be affected

  • Read updates from the University, Goldsmiths SU, and the recognised trade unions to understand how the situation is developing.
  • Email your personal tutor, supervisor or programme leader if you have questions or concerns about how changes may affect you or your course, or to find out if anyone is on industrial action. They may be on strike but may be able to tell you more. Failing which, contact the Student Hub as soon as you can: gold.ac.uk/students/student-hub/
  • Keep copies of important correspondence, assessments, results and academic records.
  • Check your University email regularly for updates from the University relating to industrial action, assessment, progression and graduation.
  • Reach out to the Student Hub and to the SU if you have a specific concern or experience.
