Running a Meeting

In this section

  • Find a society or club
  • Start a society or club
  • Support for societies and clubs
  • Sport at Goldsmiths

We strongly encourage each society to run a large open meeting (also known as an AGM or Annual General Meeting) for every one of their members to voice their thoughts. In this meeting, you should:

  • Summarise the positive and critical points from the last academic year

  • Give an overview of finances

  • Explain the roles up for election, and give candidates 2 minutes (and no more) to explain why they are the most suitable person for the position

  • All questions and comments from members

Below is a sample agenda, we encourage you to use this as a starting point for yours.

1. Welcome attendees and introduce committee members

2. Overview of the past year. You should cover:

  • Your activity in the last year

  • Any publicity gained

  • Number of members and participants in activity

  • Success points

  • Points to improve on next year

3. Financial report - the Treasurer should present money gained/spent throughout the year, with an overview of how it was raised. This should also cover the funds which will be carried into the next year

4. Plan for next year

  • When will you run events? We like to see at least one a term.

  • Will you run weekly events?

  • What is the format for weekly events?

  • What is your aim for expected turnout?

5. Questions from members

6. Explanation of roles going up for election

7. Hustings - 2 minutes per candidate for elected roles

8. Questions to candidates
