Trans Day of Remembrance in the SU

Fri 19 November 2021 17:00-18:00 -

'Transgender Day of Remembrance seeks to highlight the losses we face due to anti-transgender bigotry and violence. I am no stranger to the need to fight for our rights, and the right to simply exist is first and foremost. With so many seeking to erase transgender people -- sometimes in the most brutal ways possible -- it is vitally important that those we lose are remembered, and that we continue to fight for justice.'

- Transgender Day of Remembrance founder Gwendolyn Ann Smith

Join us as we remember those in the transgender community whose lives have been lost to violence, marginalisation, and prejudice, as well as to renew our commitment to creating a brighter future. This event is free and open to trans and gender nonconforming community members, as well as friends, family, and allies.

The evening will center around a collective creation of a remembrance banner which will be displayed in the Union.

We also invite you to share your personal reflections of hope, grief, solidarity, and whatever other thoughts or feelings you wish, during the event.

This event is free and centers trans and gender nonconforming community members. Friends, family, and allies are welcome!

Head to the SU Lower Ground Floor between 5-6pm.
