Queer History surrounds us. We find it in the built environment and landscapes, buildings, streets that we use every day. The Pride of Place project maps these spaces from Roman England to the present, innovatively using crowdsourcing to highlight the widest range of experiences and vpices by asking LGBTQ people themselves what constitutes queer history. Justin Bengry was research lead, working with overall projevt leader Professor Alison Oram, for this Historic England project that opened up discussion in the UK about how we identify, celebrate, and preserves our queer heritage. Widely reported in the international press, Pride of Place lives on as a map and online exhibition, official listings, policy guidance and tteaching resources.
