Islamophobia in Queer Spaces

Wed 26 February 2020 16:00-17:00 - Liberation Room (downstairs in the SU)

Join Goldsmiths SU and Bury Your Gays for a workshop on islamophobia in queer spaces run by Malak Mayet.

Malak Mayet is a student activist and political educator. Malak has represented British Muslims nationally and internationally, in mainstream media. In this interactive workshop, the intersection of islamophobia and queerphobia is explored, with a particular focus on how this plays out in the lived realities of queer Muslims. This workshop is comprehensive: it helps the wider queer/Muslim community understand how to support their queer Muslim comrades, it provides a space for queer Muslims to discover and understand their identities and experiences, and it allows any activist interested in queer and race liberation grapple with important concepts, such as homonationalism.
