Broadcast is a new media conference taking place at Goldsmiths across a full day, giving you the opportunity to learn, network and develop skills in a range of media industries. Whether you're interested in a career in news/magazine journalism, radio or film-making, come and network with your peers and industry professionals alike! 
 
Join various workshops and panel discussions providing a combination of practical skills and an opportunity to hear from professionals about how they got to where they are today.

12-1pm Room 1: A DIY Mag Survival Guide to Music Media
So you want to get involved with music media, but don’t know where to start? Don’t reinvent the wheel! Come along to this workshop where DIY Magazine will give you the inspiration to kick off your career and survive in the dynamic and challenging world of music media!

12-1pm Room 2: Centre for Investigative Journalism (Limited Spaces 30)

Whether it's using Freedom of Information law effectively or unearthing story leads in data sets; investigating companies or finding hidden connections between people; our industry leading training will tool you up with the skills you need to get an edge in the job market, and make sure you get to use your studies for real journalism, not just PR. The Centre for Investigative Journalism can help. Join us for a tour of the skills our network of expert investigators and award-winning journalists can teach you.

1-2pm Room 1: Pathways into Journalism
There are many ways to become and exist as a journalist. In this session, with speakers from a breadth of professional backgrounds, we will explore some of the pathways into the industry.

1-2pm Room 2: Civilian Journalism (Limited Spaces 30)
The rise in digital technology has made civilian journalism accessible to people across the globe in a way we have never seen before. From the Arab Spring, to police brutality it has revolutionized how we not only consume media, but also produce it. Come along to this workshop to find out how to be a more effective civilian journalist.

2-3pm SU Cafe: Networking Lunch
A lunch will be provided and attendees will have an opportunity to mingle and chat with speakers and workshop leaders that are presenting throughout the day.

3-4pm Room 1: How to run a radio station: Q&A with Dan Gray, Co-Founder of Soho Radio
Sit down with Dan Gray, co-founder of independent radio station Soho Radio as he talks to us about his experience of setting up a station from scratch.  

3-4pm Room 2: Alternative Media
Alternative media plays a fundamental role in influencing narrative, affecting change and can be a place where unheard voices are amplified. This panel will hear from people who work primarily with alternative media to explore the role it plays in shaping society and the pressures of running them.

4-5pm Room 1: First Steps in Freelancing: From Pitching to Publication
Practical and straightforward advice on how to start freelancing whilst at university. We'll run through everything from finding stories to publications likely to commission young people, as well as making sure you're paid fairly for your work. Bring your ideas and your questions!
