Goldsmiths needs to reward students, invest in students, and use student talent!
Hi, I’m Nina, and I’m running to be your Campaigns & Activities Officer! As Captain and Social Secretary of the Women’s Basketball team for the past two years, I’ve experienced first-hand both the strengths and the challenges facing our societies and sports teams. I want to make sure student communities are properly supported and listened to.
My Priorities:
-
Reward clubs and societies, particularly committee members and volunteers, with real recognition and benefits
-
Stop outsourcing and instead prioritise Goldsmiths students for creative work and paid opportunities (for example, commissioning student-designed posters for spaces like Cinema Café rather than relying on AI, and ensuring events like Varsity Media Day are led by Goldsmiths students instead of external institutions)
-
Challenge university complicity in global injustice and push for ethical divestment
-
Stand in solidarity with students campaigning for Palestinian liberation and other justice movements
-
Develop stronger partnerships between departments and societies to create portfolio opportunities
-
Be transparent and give students a say in how activity funding is spent
-
Protect the Wednesday sports competition time
-
Introduce regular feedback surveys and forums between the SU and society committees

During my time at Goldsmiths, I’ve seen how much passion and unpaid effort students put into their teams and communities. However, I’ve also seen where communication breaks down, and students feel that decisions are made without their input. If elected, I want to create clearer, more consistent communication between the SU and committees, so communities feel genuinely heard rather than informed.
I also believe funding should directly benefit student communities. That means being more transparent about where funding goes and involving students in decisions about spending on sports, community activities and spaces. We are a creative university, and we should be using our own talented students before outsourcing or relying on AI. There is so much potential to build stronger partnerships between departments and societies, giving students real portfolio opportunities while strengthening our community.
Finally, I know how much work committee members put in behind the scenes. They deserve better recognition and tangible benefits for the time they dedicate.
Thank you! <3
