Inclusive voices. Stronger union. Real change
My name is Garv Lakhmani, and I am running for Student Union president to make our university a more supportive, inclusive and engaging place for every student. I believe the Student Union should listen, act and deliver real improvements to everyday student life, not just make prosimes that never turn into change.
I am standing for Student Union president because I want students to feel heard, valued and represeted. Too often, decisions are made without sufficient student input, and important like wellbeing, academic support and campus life are not adressed quickly enough. I want to change that by building a better relationship between the students and the union.
My focus will be on 3 main areas: communication, support and oppurtunity. I will introduce regular student forums and online polls so students can easily share their views and shape decisions. I will work closely with university staff to improve mental health support, including clearer signposting to services and more peer led wellbeing initiatives. I will also aim to increase oppurtunity for students to get involved through societies, volunteering, and skills workshop that prepare students for life beyond university.
Most importantly, I will be an active and visible president. I will attend events, speak to students across all courses and years and make sure the union is approachable, transparent and accountable.
