Corruption at Goldsmiths needs to end
Students at Goldsmiths deserve a Union and University that works for their best interests, and not against them for personal agendas. For too long, decisions at this University have been made behind closed doors, with little transparency or student involvement. As a Student Trustee, I will challenge this culture of secrecy, hold leadership to account, and ensure every student understands how their feedback, representation, and voices are being used.
Over the past few years whilst completing my BA in History, I have been consistently monitoring, questioning, and reporting on structural and governance issues within both the Union and the University; and my advocacy has helped to expose weaknesses within Goldsmiths, prompted drastic internal and policy changes, and created essential conversations amongst leadership about integrity, fairness, and accountability. As I’m now enrolled on the History MA, I have seen first-hand how student concerns are ignored until someone persistent insists on the truth being heard in full critical context, and I intend to continue challenging the leadership of the University and Union whenever possible.
My priorities:
1. Explicit Transparency
The University should not operate like a private social club. I will continue to advocate for uncensored minute taking within meetings, the genuine publication of minutes that aren’t redacted, transparency with budgets, and full clarity on trustee decisions in accessible formats. Students deserve to know where funds are going, who benefits, and how choices are made on their behalf. Meetings that happen within the University aren’t always transparently recorded, and this needs to stop.
2. Financial and Ethical Accountability
Students are the foundation of the University, and deserve confidence that money is spent ethically, efficiently, and equitably. I will demand open audits, transparency regarding past and present conflicts of interest, and ensure all spending aligns with student needs - not internal politics. Every financial decision made on behalf of students should be open for independent student audit and critique.
3. Structural Reform
The Union’s governance model must be reflective of the entire Goldsmiths student community and their consistently changing needs. I will advocate for consistent policy reviews, and accountability mechanisms to make them functional, transparent, and fair. If policies or processes protect power structures and abusers rather than the student experience, I will demand amendments. The goal is not to disrupt the pre-existing University ecosystem, but to build a structure that students can actually trust instead.
5. Real Communication, Not Public Relations
Communication and inclusion from Goldsmiths should be informative, not performative. I will advocate for clear channels for whistleblowing, feedback, and student questions that must receive responses within fixed timeframes. Students should not need to chase or beg for clarity or access to student services, and all members of the Goldsmiths community should feel welcomed without their inclusion being conditional on their compliance with corrupt agendas.
I have proven experience challenging the senior management of Goldsmiths and have achieved measurable impact with my campaigns for racial justice, policy changes and student inclusion, although there is still more work to be done and Goldsmiths are only just starting to consider making meaningful changes to the student experience. I am independently unbiased, persistent, and unafraid to ask difficult questions, integrity matters more to me than popularity; which is why I am unafraid to critically advocate for matters that Goldsmiths do not seek to prioritise, and the senior management of Goldsmiths know the lengths I have gone to ensure they are held accountable for their destruction of the Goldsmiths’ student experience. Regardless of whether or not I am elected, I will not let Goldsmiths hide behind weaponised compliance or procedural loopholes
