INCLUSIVITY FOR ALL, EXCLUSIVITY FOR NONE.

Hi my name is Ati, a Media and communication student and this is my second year at Goldsmiths. I really enjoy Goldsmiths but there is a slight lack of diversity representation, which I hope to fill. My aim is to create a space where there is Inclusivity for All and Exclusivity for None.

I am very passionate about inclusivity, diversity and social engagements. If elected, I plan to start up the Afro/Caribbean society which would be a place where everyone is welcome to exchange ideas, cultural values and social events. I would also like to create other ethnic minority societies if the interest permits.I plan to host an array of social events which will be inclusive to all Goldsmiths students, and various communities from other Universities. These events will be all inclusive and will help to foster intercultural understanding, tolerance and unity in the university and consequently in the world at Large.

As a GEM student officer, I would like to be a point of contact for both Home and International minority students. My responsibility includes offering advice and mentorship options and offer access to wellfare resources. I want to set up a system in which various responsible students are given outreach positions within the office. This outreach provides students a safe place of confidentiality to discuss any issues they are facing. This can range from substance abuse, mental health, academic issues, discrimination, to how their day went. With the student's consent, my office will be able to offer them advice and references to the appropriate resources.

I have also noticed a lack of diversity in a lot of the extracurricular activities like the sports team. Having come from the UK'S number 1 sports school, Millfield and as a person of colour, Sports has allowed me tour the world and experience different cultures. I have participated both locally and internationally, in many competitions; making sports a way of life for me. Sports has allowed me to improve my mental and physical health as well as improving my communicative and social skills. It has paved the way for alot of opportunities for me and I hope to encourage inclusivity and diversity at Goldsmiths.
There is a high rate of minority students not graduating, this is especially common amongst black students. I would like to provide advice and alternatives to withdrawals, which include interuption of studies, defferals and councillors under a Buddy mentorship system.

My aim, if elected is to make ALL students irrespective of colour, race and nationality feel welcome at Goldsmiths and to freely participate and enjoy all that the University has to offer.

INCLUSIVITY FOR ALL, EXCLUSIVITY FOR NONE.
