Candidate for the position of Black and Minority Ethnic Students' Officer

Fateha Jesmi

creating the change you deserve

Hi, my name is Fateha Jesmi, currently studying Psychology BSc in first year. I am standing to be elected as the BME Officer for Goldsmiths University. I am extremely passionate about ensuring that all students receive the best experience they can within university regardless of department and year! I would like to take on this role to ensure that the views of all students from all faculties and years are represented, free from discrimination and inequality.

If I am elected, I would aim to:

  • ensure that everyone has their opinion heard and expressed by collaborating with all school officers and DSC’s to tackle any challenges that may affect the academic interests and welfare of students.
  • decolonise the curriculum and promote inclusion into the subjects we study and allow a diversity of perspective
  • create a network with various BME societies where we meet regularly to discuss how we can work together and support each other

My previous experience as head prefect in sixth form and deputy head prefect in secondary school has allowed me to grow as an individual and create the change that the students deserve. With this role I will organise surveys to include your input and feedback as the BME officer and inform me of what I can do to improve your experience as a Goldsmiths student.

It would be an honour to serve as your representative in the upcoming academic year and to have the chance to improve your time at university.

Thank you for reading my manifesto and feel free to get in contact with me:
