Student-Led
From the beginning, CARE has been a direct student response to incidents of abuse and sexual violence on campus. We work with students (peer facilitators and CARE ambassadors) and for students, amplifying voices and fostering a safe environment both on campus and beyond. It is also a core component of our signposting system, where we work with students who have experienced sexual violence to find the support they feel is most suitable for them.
How?
- All events and workshops are facilitated by student-staff members
- We organise regular focus groups with CARE Ambassadors
Activism
Activism is a core component of CARE. We strive to raise awareness, educate students, and create trauma-informed spaces where those who want to actively challenge and fight against sexual violence and other forms of abuse can openly share their experiences and work towards solutions. We believe that by creating a culture of education and awareness we can prevent harmful behaviours altogether.
How?
-
Some of the events organised by CARE in the past year included craftivism sessions, reading groups, dedicate zine and banner making activities
-
We consistently engage in advocacy and policy work, communicating with the college
Community
We believe that we need tight-knit communities of active bystanders to challenge sexual violence, hate, discrimination, and other forms of abuse. By equipping individuals with the knowledge and skills to safely intervene, we empower them to take action when they witness harm.
How?
-
We organise regular events so that students have multiple engagement points with the project
-
All students who want to stay connected to the project and contribute to its development can sign up as CARE Ambassadors.
Collaboration
We work alongside students, local communities, and larger organisations to create a varied offer of engaging initiatives that address the particular needs of different groups.
How?
-
We constantly engage with external organisations, students, societies and more
-
Any student or society with an idea for the CARE Project can propose it to us through an open Project Proposal Form.
CARE has developed into three complementary directions, defined by our trauma-informed and survivor-centred approach:
-
ACTIVE BYSTANDERS - making the campus a safer space for all by empowering students to intervene safely and have access to support, resources, and efficient reporting mechanisms.
-
CARE COMMUNITY - creating pockets of safety within the university through events that encourage open and honest discussions in relaxing environments and giving all students the opportunity to get involved and shape the direction of the project
-
WELLBEING, SAFETY & SEXUAL HEALTH - collaborating with students and external organisations to facilitate access to useful resources and information through workshops, campaigns, and signposting.
