About me

Hey, I'm Islam your 2022-23 Welfare and Liberation Officer. If you would like to get in touch you can email me here welfare.officer@goldsmithssu.org

What I'm working on

Archiving

Movements that lack memory are less likely to create real, lasting change. I want to embed archiving and archival practices into our campaigns and societies, as well as record achievements and materials from our past. That way, we can help future Goldsmiths activists and student leaders succeed.

Transnational connections

I want to connect our campaigners and clubs with their equivalents from universities in other countries - for example, connecting student-led history clubs from Goldsmiths with history clubs from around the globe.

Community knowledge exchange

Goldsmiths is part of the local community, but on occasion we do not connect well with local groups and their agendas - our institutional presence can even harm local residents. I want to learn more about the agendas of local groups, and bring Goldsmiths SU into real cooperation with them. This starts by mapping our local groups, and building bridges with them.

Investing in holistic liberation networks

Liberation is holistic; if Goldsmiths SU is to support established liberation networks, it needs to be done in an organic, safe and meaningful way. We want to create an environment in which BPOC people don't find themselves put in a position of being forced to deliver all diversification work.
