Proposer: Nishat Shah

Seconder: Fiona Sim

Motion title: Liberation room as a safe space for liberation groups

Section one: 'This Union Notes...'

1. The Safe Space Policy says that: “ A safe space policy is all about creating an open and welcoming environment within our Union so that all our members feel able to participate,” giving mandate for this policy.

Section two: 'This Union Believes...'

1. The liberation room should be a safe space accessible to liberation groups and international students at all times and actively made to be so.
2. The liberation room should not function like an ordinary meeting space.
3. Liberation groups and international students should be prioritised.
4. Safe space policy should be enforced by making the liberation room for liberation groups and international students.

Section three: 'This Union Resolves/ Mandates...'

1. The liberation room will not be booked as a space for meetings or sessions that (a) do not directly pertain to liberation groups or international students and (b) are not run by liberation groups or international students.
2. Information on how liberation groups can book the space will be made available in the liberation room (eg leaflets or a poster).
3. Liberation groups should be encouraged to use and decorate the space as they wish.
4. Liberation room will have a budget set aside so that liberation groups and international students will be able to continually request items such as food, drink, and sanitary items from the Union to be refreshed with clear signage and instructions on how to do so.
