What can I do to show my support?

Lots! It’s important to remember that this isn’t only an issue affecting academics, this has horrendous effects on education as a whole, so Goldsmiths Students’ Union urges you to stand in solidarity with your lecturers and have conversations with your peers to try to further understand the issues. We also suggest the below...

  • Show solidarity and join the picket line - protest beside your lecturers because the more impactful the disruption, the more likely it is to be resolved.

  • Attend the teach outs that will be occurring in the SU and on the picket line, where staff, students and activists will be hosting classes on topics such as the wider conversations around marketisation of higher education. (More info to follow shortly!)

  • Send emails to Goldsmiths Senior Management to pressurise them to influence the national negotiations over the pensions dispute, as well as make steps to work against casualisation of staff and show their support for the strikes. The Vice Chancellors in several other UK universities undergoing strike action have done so, and Goldsmiths should be amongst them.

  • If you'd like to find out more about the work UCU is doing for support staff on casualised and part-time contracts you can read more here.

  • Tweet your support using the hashtag #UCUstrike and tag @GoldsmithsSU in your posts so we can reshare through our communications channels.
