It’s been a week and a half since the launch of our campaign to #TakeSurvivorsSeriously and we haven’t been contacted by the University.
We have however seen amazing support from the community - including approx 712 students and staff who have signed our statement, countless academic colleagues (including Heads of Departments) and organisations such as Goldsmiths UCU, 1752 Group, Survivors UK, Good Night Out and Report Harmful Content.
We hope this has given cause for thought for yourself and the senior leadership team who made the decision to remove the funding, and would like to use this email to extend the olive branch. We ask that you return the funding in full so that we can return our focus back onto the cause we originally set out to fight together - tackling sexual violence and harassment on campus.
Our requests are clear
A return of the funding, to the same amount as last year so we can pay the staff and get them planning and implementing Consent Matters and looking to the future.
A change of leadership for the ASV Board and a commitment the board will regularly meet and be a meaningful space.
An apology from yourself that this has happened in the first place.
Out of courtesy we will be updating our supporters that we have sent this letter, and would hope you can prioritise responding to prevent any further delay to this project doing good work we do for students, staff and survivors. Please state if you are happy or not for us to share your response, we will not do so unless you give express permission but would encourage it for transparency.

The #TakeSurvivorsSeriously Campaign
P.S. It’s the second day of our 16 Days programming: a series of community, education, and wellness events organised by the Against Sexual Violence team. All funded by the Students’ Union out-of-pocket given the College’s total funding withdrawal (though the college are still publicly taking half of the credit). We are also running a series of survivor spaces throughout the #TakeSurvivorsSeriously campaign, including daily coffee mornings. If you’d like to join the email invite list, fill out this form.'
