If you think you can initiate change, communicate effectively with students and staff, deliver results throughout the year and help get students what they want then you could be just the person we’re looking for to turn up the volume in your department.


There are positions for undergraduate and postgraduate students in all departments to work as part of a team of 50 to help promote quality and representation across the whole of Goldsmiths College. To find out how many DSC we recruit per department click here .

Please note, that the application form can take some time to fill out. It is advisable that you write the compentency on word then copy and paste it onto the form.

What is a Departmental Student Coordinator (DSC)?

A DSC is a student who wants to have a positive impact on their programme of study by representing the views of their students to the College and the SU. To get a full picture of what a DSC does please click here for a full job description.

Is the position paid?

The role of DSC attract an annual honorarium of £400. However, in order to receive this honorarium a DSC must

1. Attend all departmental meetings
2. Attend all Union DSC meeting
3. Submit bi-monthly meeting
4. Attend Training

What does a DSC do?

DSCs liaise regularly with students, reps and staff in their departments and work with the Students’ Union to ensure that the student voice is heard at all levels.

How many DSCs are there?

There is a total of 50 across the College in all departments representing foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate levels. To see how reps we recruit per department click here

What are Student Staff Forums?

Student Staff Forums happen at least twice a year and form part of the process by which students and staff of the College can initiate change and gather feedback about their experiences.  Any student can attend a forum and have their say, with the DSCs responsible for collating the initial issues and feedback from students to drive the agenda of the meeting

What are Union DSC Meetings?

DSC meeting are held on a monthly basis, where all the DSC come together to discuss their experiences, achievements and best practice. They are coordinated by the Representation and Democracy Manager.

What other meetings do DSCs attend?

In addition to SSF meetings, DSCs might be invited the Departmental Board Meeting, the highest standing committee of a department. They would also need to attend various different student based meetings organised by non academic departments such as the Library, IT Services and College Registry.

How do students and DSCs get in touch with one another?

DSCs can be contacted by email, face to face or through the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) forums which have been set up.  Each department will have an online forum where issues can be discussed and possible solutions suggested.

What support do DSCs get?

Each department has a staff member who is responsible for the Programme Monitoring and Representation scheme and all DSCs will receive full training and development from the Students’ Union.


Upon training DSC receive a PDF handbook, which will provide you with all the info about being a DSC.
