A statement from your full-time officers on incident in the library

We would like to address what happened in the library on Monday 28th of May.

We’re deeply concerned that a student was arrested in the library on Monday morning.

At around 1am on Monday morning a series of events happened that led to a student being handcuffed, arrested and kept in police custody till 4pm the next day. The student was distressed that they were not being allowed back into the library due to having only a day pass and not an ID card and this led to security calling the police.

We have had many students contacting us about this issue. Our first and foremost concern throughout all of this is the welfare and wellbeing of the student and to ensure that the individual is able to continue their study without interference.

The student has asked us to raise the issue with the college and we have assisted her in getting legal advice regarding her treatment by the police.

We’re hoping that the college will be able to respond to the concerns raised about her treatment from security, and the decision to call the police, appropriately.
