MISS SARAH VOWDEN

My Name is Sarah and I am a second year PPE student. After returning from my Exchange Semester, I am part of a group of students currently setting up the New Economics Society at Goldsmiths, which will be both an academic and social society. From talking to fellow students at Goldsmiths, after the hype of Freshers Fair it can often seem daunting to join societies, know how to get involved or little knowledge of how to set up a society. Providing a more visible platform for societies, and improving the inclusivity of all students would be a central aim of mine if I were to be chosen as Societies Officer.

As Part-time societies officer I would:

  • Provide more help and resources to more effectively advertise societies
  • More direct advertisement to mature and post-graduate students
  • Encourage students from all areas of study to set-up academic societies for their courses through outreach programmes
  • Encourage collaboration with other societies with similar aims to organise larger events on campus
  • Greater emphasis on charity societies, with the aim to set up a RAG (Raise and Give) committee
  • Ensure feedback is gathered from societies committee's training, particularly stressing whether the training improves inclusivity and if student welfare is prioritised.
