A CAMPUS THAT MEETS YOUR NEEDS

Goldsmiths has 12 buildings on campus, and though half of them are named after men, none of them are named after women. Our campus needs to represent and fulfil the needs of our growing student body. I promise to:

  • Campaign for the management to guarantee that the new building on 1 St. James will be named after a woman with a connection to Goldsmiths, as chosen by the student body by means of a vote.
  • Campaign to make every building on campus more accessible for students with disabilities.
  • Find more adequate space for our societies and sports teams to use for events, practices or rehearsals.

BUILDING STUDENT COMMUNITIES

I’ve seen the benefits of being part of a strong academic society linked to the English department, and I will build one of these for every department on campus. These will:

  • Develop student communities.
  • Provide us more interesting extracurricular activities, as well as more fun social events.
  • Improve communication between the departments and the students.
  • Give our DSCs, PALs and course reps another platform for engaging with students.

STICKING UP FOR JOINT HONOURS STUDENTS

As a joint honours student I understand the issues and challenges that come with working with two different departments. We feel frustrated and ignored, and I will fight to change this by:

  • Introducing joint honours PALs.
  • Having one degree convenor with experience in both disciplines in the leading department.
  • Offering interdisciplinary modules for all degree programmes.
  • Introducing a Joint Honours Forum so course reps can feedback to their depts.
  • Having collaborative advice sessions during module selection season to help students pick complimentary modules.

LIBERATING OUR DEGREES

The Tory government are fighting to make university as inaccessible as possible, so we’re going to fight back twice as hard. I will campaign for:

  • Free education and the reintroduction of maintenance grants as well as against cuts to our students’ DSA, alongside NCAFC and NUS.
  • The decolonising and liberating of the curriculum.
  • The establishment of workshops run for local Lewisham schools and sixth forms, on which the university and union could collaborate.
