MISS LYNSAY HODGES

My name is Lynsay, I'm 23 (almost 24!) and a second year Media and Comms student. I am your current Campaigns Coordinator, and am running to be re-elected into this position.

WHAT I HAVE DONE

Since becoming a Goldsmiths student two years ago, I have worked tirelessly in the Students' Union to make it a safer and more inclusive space for its vulnerable members. In my first year, I established the Goldsmiths Survivors Support Network (GSSN): a peer-to-peer group for those who have experienced any form of abuse and/or sexual violence. This year, I have continued to coordinate GSSN, as well as having been elected as your current Campaigns Coordinator. In this role, I have overseen the SU's 'Tackling Sexual Harassment' campaign, and as such my achievements include:

  • Lauching the NUS #StandByMe campaign on our campus - one of the first in the country to do so - along with our Women's Officers. The campaign aims to increase support for student survivors of sexual violence on campus, in the local area, and nationally. We are planning to hold more events later this year to carry on raising awareness and encouraging change
  • Working with the Feminist Society and Rugby Team on their Tackling Lad Culture campaign
  • Researching and planning with full-time SU staff as to how we can introduce consent training at Goldsmiths

WHAT I WILL DO

I want to see our SU carry these successes on into next year. Having been key to the implementation of these campaign, and building a wealth of expertise around these issues, there is no better person to carry this forward. When re-elected as your Campaigns Coordinator, I pledge to:

  1. Carry on over-seeing the SU's strategy on tackling sexual harassment: continuing to coordinate GSSN and expanding its influence; working with the NUS Women's Campaign and Rape Crisis England & Wales on the #StandByMe campaign; continuing the push for consent training
  2. Push our union to demonstrate its commitment to labour rights: proposing bursaries for part-time officers; campaigning for all full-time positions to be available as a job share (benefitting not just students, but parents, carers, and the disabled in our local area)
  3. Collaborate with other part-time officers on their flagship campaigns: in particular, I am passionate about challenge the government's attacks on the disabled, and how this rhetoric has manifested in our institution's practices

Please, vote for me during elections (open 8th March), to ensure a strong voice fighting for liberation on campus and beyond.
