MR BINYOMIN GILBERT

Hi I'm Binyomin Gilbert,

I have been president of the Jewish society for the last year and am a second year history student. In my position as leader of the Jewish Society I have experienced representing one of the smallest, and least understood ethnic minority groups on campus.

If elected as BME officer, I aim to address issue of isolation of BME students and to use the potential BME has to create unity for students from all minority ethnic backgrounds.

As a collective BME students make up a powerful voice within society, one which should be heard and which should be united. I will ensure as BME officer that every minority ethnic student is represented, nobody should have no voice, I along with others know what it is to feel isolated as a minority, i am from one of the smallest minority groups on campus and have often felt alone or tokenised, this is not how it should be and everyone should feel supported.

Therefore I shall continue the safe spaces on campus policy, increasing awareness, i shall fight strongly against microaggression, to ensure all minority groups feel secure on campus, fighting fascism, racism, islamophobia and anti-semitism, ensuring that nobody is left marginalised.

In order to ensure everyone voice is heard I shall introduce a suggestions box through which BME students can anonymously, or openly make complaints and requests, these suggestions will be taken seriously and will increase direct representation, as well as giving the opportunity for students to anonymously comment on sensitive issues.

I shall continue the fight for increased course diversification, looking seriously at the current lack of diversity within Goldsmiths curriculums, in line with the campaign "why is my curriculum white?" and fight for more attention to be given to significant BME figures.

I shall host bi-monthly meetings for BME students to voice their concerns, i will always make time for students to speak about issues and i will strive to create a united front in which BME fights for its smallest components as a united power.

I shall ensure that Goldsmiths students voices are heard, and that practical measures are taken to support refugees, my family came to this country as refugees and i will not stand by as others go through what they did.

It's time to fight together, to be the voice for the oppressed, no person should be left alone.
