Hi, I'm Faizan - BA Sociology, third year, running to be your next Campaigns & Activities Officer. I have been a part of a number of campaigns on and off campus: fighting against cuts to education, rising fees, anti-fascism, and for housing rights. Being a student ambassador and an active member in several societies, I’m aware of various difficulties students face and ways to tackle them. I’m a firm believer that Goldsmiths is at the forefront of student activism and we can continue to better our university and the national climate, one campaign at a time.

Voting for me means prioritising the following issues next year:

HOUSING:

  • Opposing rising rent prices and privatisation of accommodation
  • Campaigning for Goldsmiths to match their increasing student numbers with the number of dorm rooms we have
  • Working on an SU-led housing agency, providing a safer service for students to rely on

#STUDENTSNOTSUSPECTS

  • Raising awareness on the effects of the PREVENT agenda on Muslim students
  • Lobbying Goldsmiths to recognise the importance of learning without the threat of surveillance and educators spying on us

CELEBRATING OUR SUCCESSESS

  • Finding space to celebrate the amazing victories students manage to do on their own
  • Pushing Goldsmiths to value sport clubs and provide more support
  • Investing more resources in our student-run activities, such as Wired Radio and social nights in The Stretch, to increase membership

COLLABORATION, COLLABORATION, COLLABORATION:

  • More communication between the SU and its members
  • Providing a platform for societies and clubs to engage with one another and creating the chance for cross-group activities to happen
  • Building connections between the SU and the local community to create local projects to tackle homelessness and gentrification and finding reasonable solutions to solve issues like transport and practice space
