Holocaust Memorial Day

Today is Holocaust Memorial Day. Never forget what humankind is capable of doing to itself.

Never forget the disabled they came for first or the mental hospitals where they gassed all the patients. Never forget the Jews, the Travellers, the Jehovah’s Witnesses, Communists, LGBTQ people, Poles, Hungarians and others who were killed, the women, children, identical twins and vertically challenged people who were experimented on.

Never underestimated the power of dehumanising language because all this was done to people who were not considered “fully human” by people no different to you. Never forget.

The UK National Union of Students have put a call out for solidarity and the motion passed mandates the following:

Please support the campaign for Dlamini’s immediate release - information can be found here: http://www.nus.org.uk/en/campaigns/global-justice/help-the-president-of-swaziland-nus/

Statement on Whitehead Occupation

Goldsmiths Students’ Union stands shoulder to shoulder with lecturers and public sector workers and supports the strike action on the 30th November. We feel the pension issue is part of a wider concerted attack on the public sector, including education, and therefore it is paramount we show solidarity and join the picket lines where we can.

On Wednesday the Whitehead went into occupation. Although the Students’ Union is not directly involved in this, we understand the occupation is peaceful and they are allowing all students and lecturers in and out of the building.

On 22nd November Goldsmiths Students’ Assembly voted…

National Demo to Defend Education!

It’s almost a year since the beginning of the massive student protests against tuition fees.
One year on we are facing the further devastation of education with the whitepaper to be voted on soon, which would authorise and encourage for-profit companies to enter into our campuses and distort academia for the interests of the economy and big business.
This in the context of HUGE cuts to higher education funding - Goldsmiths is losing *all* it’s teaching funding!

A national student march has been called for this Wednesday! Students from across the country will once again be marching to keep education…
